Privacy Policy

Foremost Metal Recycling is the data controller for the personal data described in this notice. We are a commercial metal recycling and site clearance business working across Surrey, Berkshire and Greater London.

This notice explains what we do with personal data, why, how long we keep it, and what rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Nothing. There is no contact form, no enquiry form, no newsletter sign-up, no account and no live chat anywhere on this site. Every way of getting in touch is a direct link: a phone number, a WhatsApp link and an email address. Nothing you do on these pages is recorded by us.

The one exception is the map, which comes from Google. That is covered in its own section below.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which will include your IP address, the pages requested and your browser type. Those are generated automatically to keep the site running and secure, they are not used to identify you, and we do not combine them with anything else.

The home page and the contact page show a map of where we are based. It is embedded from Google Maps. When that map loads, your browser contacts Google directly, and Google receives your IP address and may set cookies or read cookies it has already set on your device. That happens between you and Google, not through us, and we receive nothing from it.

What Google does with that data is governed by its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy. If you would rather not load it, the map is the only third-party content on the site, and blocking third-party frames in your browser will stop it without affecting anything else. Our address and phone number are written out in the page next to it either way.

We set no cookies of our own. We run no analytics, no advertising pixels and no tracking scripts, and we do not build any profile of who visits this site. Aside from the Google map described above, nothing on these pages stores anything on your device.

If that ever changes we will update this notice, and we will ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set.

When you call, message or email us, we hold what you give us so that we can answer you and quote for the work. Usually that is your name, your phone number or email address, the address the work is at, and the details of what needs collecting or clearing.

If you message us on WhatsApp, that conversation also sits on WhatsApp and is subject to WhatsApp's own privacy terms as well as this notice. If you would rather it did not, please call or email instead.

If an enquiry does not turn into a job, we delete it within twelve months.

When we do a job for you, we may also hold:

• the details required on a waste transfer note, including the address the waste came from and who handed it over
• for an end-of-life vehicle, the vehicle and keeper details shown on the V5C, so the disposal can be recorded and notified as the law requires
• weights, grades and prices for the material collected, together with payment details where we are paying you for it
• site access details, contact names, and photographs of the work for our own job records

We do not use photographs of a job in our marketing, on this website or on social media without permission.

To quote for and carry out work you have asked for. Our lawful basis is performance of a contract, or taking steps at your request before entering into one.

To meet our duty of care and vehicle disposal obligations. Waste transfer records, hazardous waste consignment notes and end-of-life vehicle records are all required of us by law. Our lawful basis is compliance with a legal obligation.

To keep proper accounts and handle insurance. Our lawful basis is compliance with a legal obligation for tax records, and our legitimate interests for insurance and for defending a claim.

To keep a record of the jobs we have done. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in being able to answer a question about past work and to run the business properly.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling, and we never sell it or pass it to anyone for marketing.

We share personal data only where we need to, and only with:

• the permitted sites and reprocessors the material goes on to, where a transfer note has to name the parties
• the Environment Agency, the DVLA and other regulators, where we are required to record or notify a disposal
• our accountant, our insurers and our bank
• our web host and email provider, who process data on our behalf and only on our instructions
• the police or another authority, where we are legally obliged to provide information

Where a supplier handles data for us, they are bound to use it only for what we have asked and to keep it secure.

We keep personal data for as long as we need it, and where the law fixes a period, for that period:

• waste transfer notes, two years
• hazardous waste consignment notes, three years
• accounting and tax records, six years after the end of the financial year they relate to
• end-of-life vehicle records, for as long as the relevant authorisation requires
• enquiries that did not become a job, twelve months

Once a record is no longer needed it is deleted, or securely destroyed if it is on paper.

Our records are held in the United Kingdom. Where a supplier stores data outside the UK, we only use providers that give protection equivalent to UK data protection law.

Access to job records is limited to the people who need it to do the work. Digital records sit on password-protected accounts and paper records are kept at our address. No system is perfect, but if a breach ever put your rights at risk we will tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office, as we are required to.

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy
• have inaccurate data corrected
• ask us to delete data, where we are not required by law to keep it
• ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it
• ask for your data in a portable format
• withdraw consent at any time, where we relied on consent in the first place

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

We review this notice whenever what we do changes. The date at the top of the page is the last time it was updated, and if we make a significant change we will say so here.
