Scrap Collection for Building and Construction Sites

A construction site generates a surprising amount of scrap metal, from offcuts of reinforcement bar and structural steel to old pipework, cabling, and redundant plant. Left lying around, it's a trip hazard, it takes up space needed for materials and access, and it's money sitting on the ground doing nothing. Foremost Metal Recycling has worked with builders and site managers across Surrey for 15 years, collecting scrap directly from live sites and paying a fair price for it.

What we take

What We Collect From Sites

  • Reinforcement bar and structural steel offcuts
  • Copper and other pipework removed during first or second fix
  • Electrical cabling and containment
  • Redundant plant, tools, and site equipment
  • Metal packaging and banding from deliveries
  • Radiators, boilers, and other metal fittings from strip-outs

The service

Fitting Around the Build Programme

We know that on a live site, timing matters. A collection that clashes with deliveries or crane movements can hold up the whole day. We'll agree access windows with your site manager in advance and stick to them, so our vehicle is in and out without getting in the way of the wider programme. For larger sites we can also arrange scheduled collections to coincide with specific phases of work, such as after first fix or during demolition.

Site Safety and Housekeeping

Clearing scrap metal regularly is part of good site housekeeping. It reduces manual handling risk, keeps walkways clear, and helps sites meet the standards expected under construction site regulations. Our team works safely around ongoing trades, wears the correct PPE, and follows any site-specific safety briefing before starting work.

Working With Site Managers and Contractors

Many of our site relationships start with a single job and turn into a standing arrangement for the duration of a build. If you're managing a multi-phase project, it's worth setting this up from the start so scrap is cleared consistently rather than building up between visits. We're happy to speak directly with site managers, buyers, or head office, whichever works best for your business.

How it works

How It Works

  1. Call or WhatsApp us

with details of the site, access, and roughly what needs collecting.

  2. We agree a price and access window

that fits around your build programme.

  3. We collect on the agreed date,

weigh the material, and pay promptly.

The service

Supporting Different Stages of a Build

Scrap looks different depending on which stage a build has reached. Early groundworks and structural phases tend to generate steel and reinforcement offcuts, first and second fix produce copper pipework and cabling, and later strip-out or renovation phases often bring radiators, boilers, and old fittings. Because we've worked across every stage of construction for 15 years, we know roughly what to expect at each point and can plan collections accordingly, rather than treating every visit the same way.

Working With Principal Contractors and Subcontractors

On larger developments, scrap collection is sometimes managed centrally by a principal contractor, and sometimes left to individual trades to sort out themselves. We're comfortable working either way, whether that means a single account covering the whole site or separate arrangements with different subcontractors as they come and go through the programme.

Handling Metal Safely on Site

Reinforcement bar, structural offcuts, and old plant can be heavy, sharp, and awkward to move. Our team is equipped and experienced in manual handling and lifting on construction sites, reducing the risk to your own workforce of trying to move or store this material themselves before a collection.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you collect from sites with restricted access, such as narrow roads or town centre builds?

Yes, tell us about access constraints when you book and we'll bring an appropriately sized vehicle for the site.

Do you need a permit or induction to access the site?

If your site requires a permit to work or an induction, send the details over in advance and we'll make sure our team completes them before arrival.

Can scrap collection be added to an existing skip hire arrangement?

Yes, we also offer RoRo skip hire, so metal and general waste can be managed together on larger sites if that's more convenient.

Will you separate site scrap from general construction waste?

We'll take clean metal loads directly for recycling. If your skip contains mixed waste with some scrap in it, let us know and we can advise on the best way to handle it.

Do you offer regular collections for multi-phase developments?

Yes, for longer projects we can set up a recurring schedule so scrap is cleared at each key stage rather than accumulating.

Who do you invoice on a subcontractor-managed site?

We can invoice or pay whichever party is responsible for the scrap, whether that's the principal contractor, a specific subcontractor, or an individual trade.

Can you collect small amounts as well as full loads?

Yes, though for very small, infrequent amounts it's often more efficient to store material safely on site until there's enough for a full collection. We can advise on the best approach for your site.
